  • Think about service projects that you might do for your reflection. Maybe you would like to get together with a group of peers to buy gifts for a child on an Angel Tree. We have groups nearby such as Help and Hope, the Humane Society, John 3:16, and the Food Bank that you might volunteer for. Maybe you could tutor or work with one of the clubs organizing food or toy drives.
  • Talk with your small group about ideas you have for this project.
  • List 3 possible service projects that you would be willing to do.
  • Be ready to discuss these with the class.

A Few Resources to Help

Power Verbs

Example Student Thesis Statements:
  • Fridman's critical and condescending voice establishes his disgust for the way the so called "nerds" are treated in society. (Tone is nailed, but the "so what" is too vague)

  • Fridman's sardonic criticism convinces readers that America's anti-intellectual values debauch the society and stymie intelligence.

  • Leonid Fridman's disdain and passionate indignance rebuke our culture for its iniquitous treatment of the "intellectually curious" and condemn the use of terms such as "geek" and "nerd."
(Precisely nail tone and "so what" while showcasing a nice vocabulary!)
